Lidwien De Jong
Hi, I am Lidwien de Jong, Music Therapist. After completion of my BA(Hons) in Arts Therapies, specialising in Music Therapy in the Netherlands in 2020, I moved to Wales to study towards a masters degree in Music Therapy at the University of South Wales, which I completed in 2023. I am also a certified RGM-therapist (Ronnie Gardiner Method, used in neurological rehabilitation, brain training and difficulties with stimulation processing), Neurologic Music Therapist (NMT, qualified in 2023) and have completed additional training in Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP level one).
Throughout my training I have worked with a wide range of clients, from premature babies and their families, to elderly people and end of life care. I have worked in neurological rehabilitation day centres for people with (early onset) dementia, Parkinson’s disease, stroke, Multiple Sclerosis and traumatic brain injury in the Netherlands, as well as educational settings for children with Cerebral Palsy in Nepal. In Wales I have worked with a variety of health boards and expertises, such as Special Care Baby units, Childrens Wards and Adult Mental Health for people with Learning Disabilities.
Alongside my experiences as a therapist I have worked as a specialist support worker with the National Autistic Society, which has allowed me to closely work together with individuals with autism and their families.

Since qualifying, I have been working as a music psychotherapist with Derw Newydd, a specialist educational provision dedicated to nurturing the social, emotional, and mental well-being of children and young people, as well as Ysgol Y Deri, an SEN school.
